Green Building Council opens local chapter

HYDERABAD: The chairman of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), Prem C. Jain on Wednesday predicted that Indian would be a world leader in green buildings and technologies in the future.

At the formal launch of IGBC’s Hyderabad chapter, Dr. Jain said as now, there were 195 buildings in India with 110 million square feet of built-in area. The number of such buildings had doubled in the past few years till 2007, he said. The HSBC Bank in the City he said was the latest LEED (Leadership Energy and Environmental Design) rated green building in India with LEED Silver for Existing Buildings.

Sanjay Chawla, Business Head (Commercial & SEZ) of Maytas Properties, took over as chapter chairman. Th e City chapter was formally launched at the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre here.
