CUTTACK: The annual High School Certificate (Matriculation) examination-2008 began in all the 2046 examination centres, including the two set up in Berhampur and Phulbani jails, of the State on Wednesday. The first day of the examination went off smoothly without any major untoward incident, said Board of Secondary Education (BSE) authorities here. “Barring some candidates booked for malpractices and a fake candidate arrested by Berhampur police, the examination on first day was smooth,” said BSE secretary P K Samal. He said due to unavoidable circumstances, the examinations in certain centres in Bhadrak could not start on time. “However, the problem was shorted out immediately,” Mr. Samal said. Some 3.90 lakh students are appearing for the examinations that would continue till April 5.
