PUDUKOTTAI: The Pudukottai Parliamentary Retrieval Committee comprising representatives of service organisations, Chambers of commerce and literary associations, has been floated exclusively to fight for the restoration of Parliamentary constituency status for Pudukottai.
Post cards to President
The committee has launched a mass campaign by sending post-cards, demanding immediate restoration of Parliamentary status for Pudukottai, to the President. Hundreds of post cards carrying the message were sent through various post-offices in the town on Wednesday.
To boycott general elections
The committee members also threatened to boycott the general elections in future, if Pudukottai was not re-included as a separate Parliamentary constituency.
The committee has planned to despatch about five lakh post-cards to the President of India seeking the original status of the Pudukottai Parliamentary segment, according to the office-bearers.
The committee, headed by R. Xavier comprises vice presidents and co-ordinators from different regions of the district.
All the Assembly constituencies of the Pudukottai Parliamentary seat has been apportioned to the Tiruchi and Sivagangai Parliamentary segments following the recommendations of the Delimitation Committee.
