Three held for trying to stop Chief Minister’s convoy

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Three persons who tried to stop Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s convoy on Wednesday have been arrested.

In the first incident, a 64-year-old man from Karaikudi took off his dress and fell in front of the convoy at around 9.20 a.m. near the Secretariat to attract the Chief Minister’s attention to his plea for a land title deed. The police personnel on duty caught hold him. Narayanan was arrested and remanded to custody.

Around 6 p.m., Munian,18, son of Ezhil Arasau of Matthankuppam, and Suresh,30, son of Kuttiappan of Mandaveli, in an inebriated condition, waited in a by-lane near the Public Works Department office on Kamarajar Salai. As the Chief Minister’s convoy passed by, one of them jumped on to the road, breaking the windshield of one of the cars, even as the woman police posted on the section tried to restrain the other. The Mylapore police have detained both for questioning.
