Bardhan manhandled by Telangana youths

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Even as the Communist Party of India was set to pass a political resolution incorporating its support to separate Telangana on Thursday, party general secretary A.B. Bardhan had a bitter experience on Wednesday when a group of Telangana youngsters manhandled him. The youth, reported to be supporters of former Telangana Students Union leader Pasham Yadagiri, descended at the ongoing 20th National Congress of the CPI around 9.15 p.m. and started circulating pamphlets in support of Telangana state.

They managed to gain entry and tried to corner Mr. Bardhan over the delay in announcing the party’s stand on separate Telangana.

Mr. Bardhan refused to accept the pamphlet from them. Angered over this, the youth pushed him aside and started questioning the State leaders about their stand on Telangana.

With the situation going out of control, the volunteers of CPI intervened and bodily lifted the youngsters out of the venue.

Reacting to the incident, Mr. Bardhan said the time had come for the creation of a separate Telangana state. He clarified that the CPI would not insist on the formation of separate Telangana, but the party would not oppose it if the UPA government took a firm decision on the issue.
