Power supply affected

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Power supply in Valasarawakkam, Virugambakkam and parts of Poonamallee was affected for an hour on Wednesday evening following tripping of three transmission lines.

Double circuit lines from Korattur to Sriperumbudur and one line from Sriperumbudur to Porur were hit. An official of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board attributed the power supply disruption to a kite thread (maanja) getting stuck in the lines at about 6.45 p.m.

The official said earlier in the month, power supply in northern parts of the city was disrupted three or four times under similar circumstances. Last year, three transformers in Koyambedu tripped because of the kite thread getting stuck in the instruments.
