Nigerian arrested on cheating charge

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A Nigerian, who allegedly duped a city youth of Rs. 76,000 with the assurance of providing him a job, was caught by the latter here on Wednesday.

The accused, Ojo Samuel, 31, was handed over to the Chikkadpally police by the youngster Sravan. According to the Chikkadpally ACP, B. Laxmi Naik, the Nigerian had sent an e-mail to Sravan after befriending him while chatting on the Internet three months ago.

He offered Sravan a job in a petroleum company in Nigeria and asked him to deposit some money. Sravan deposited Rs. 36,000 and Rs. 40,000 in two instalments in a bank account as directed by the Nigerian.

Trap laid

He realised that Samuel took him for a ride as the latter failed to provide the job. “He lured Samuel to the city saying there were several jobless youth in the city and were ready to pay any amount to find a job in Nigeria.

When Samuel landed in the city, he caught him and brought him to the police station,” the ACP explained.

Investigation revealed that Samuel arrived in India seven months ago on a one-year visa and was living in Mumbai.
