C.K. Jaffer Sharief to head manifesto committee


NEW DELHI: Setting at rest speculation over hierarchy in the party set up in Karnataka following the induction of the former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna for the campaign for the coming Assembly elections in the State, the Congress High Command on Wednesday announced the formation of various panels to oversee the poll preparation. This makes it clear that Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President M. Mallikarjun Kharge will lead the party campaign in the State.

The main panel – Pradesh Election Committee would be headed by Mr. Kharge and include Mr. Krishna as a member. The next important panel, Election Management and Coordination Committee, will he headed by Mr. Krishna and Mr. Kharge is not part of it.

The High Command announced the formation of an umbrella PCC Coordination Committee headed by Union Minister and party general secretary in-charge of Karnataka affairs Prithviraj Chavan and a campaign committee headed by Siddaramaiah.

Further, it announced the appointment of C.K. Jaffer Sharief as chairperson of the Manifesto Committee.

The PCC Coordination Committee will have Mr. Kharge, Mr. Krishna, Mr. Siddaramaih and Mr. Jaffer Sharief as members in their capacity as the chairpersons of the four panels, as also the chairman of the media committee, the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh and leader of the party in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil and KPCC Treasurer Shivshankarappa Shamanur.

The members of the Pradesh Election Committee include Mr. Dharam Singh, Mr. Siddaramaiah, Mr. Patil, Rahman Khan, Janardhan Poojary, B. Shankaranand, H.C. Srikantaiah, R.L. Jalappa, D.K. Shiva Kumar, R.V. Deshpande, V. Srinivasa Prasad, H. Hanumanthappa, N.Y. Hanumanthappa, A. Venkatesh Naik, Iqbal Ahmed Sadargi, Allum Veerbhadrappa, Siddu B. Nyamegouda, K.J. Geoge, Sageer Ahmed, A. Krishnappa, S.R. Morey, Veeranna A. Mathikatti, Vinaykumar Sorake, Basavaraj Rayareddy, D.B. Chandre Gowda, A.B. Patil, Jalaja Naik, Kakode Thimmappa, and Kariyanna.

The Election Management and Coordination Committee includes Mr. Janardhan Poojari as Co-Chairman, Mr. Deshpande as Convenor and Mr. Dharam Singh, Mr. Patil, Mr. Jalappa, Mr. Shivshankarappa, H.C. Srikantaiah, Mr. Shiva Kumar, Shrikantdatta N. Wadiyar, M.P. Prakash, Narsingrao Suryavanshi, R.V. Devaraj, Motamma, A.B. Malakaraddi, V. Somanna, H.M. Revanna, A. Krishappa, G.S. Basavaraj, T.B. Jayachandra, Saleem Ahmed, Prabhar Kore, Ramesh Jarkhiholi, Srinivas Gowda, Qamar-ul-Islam, B.L. Shankar, M. Shivanna, B.A. Mohiddin, Basavaraj Patil Humanbad, Kumar Bangarappa, and V.S. Ugrappa as members.

The Campaign Committee includes Mr. Veerbhadrappa as vice-chairman, V.R. Sudarshan as convenor, and Mr. Patil, Mr. Prakash, Tejaswini Sriramesh, H. Hanumanthappa, Virupakshappa, K.R. Ramesh Kumar, Umashree, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Jalaja Naik, K.B. Krishnamurthy, Vinaykumar Sorake, Venkataramanappa, K.C. Kondaiah, Veerkumar A. Patil, C.S. Nadagouda, M.N. Nabi, Narayan Rao, Girija Maheshan, H.C. Mahadevappa, B. Shivaram, H. Vishwanath, Basavaraj Rayareddy, B.R. Patil, Vijayalakshmi Ramanna, Kodandaramaiah, V. Srinivas Prasad, R. Roshan Baig, J. Alexander, U.R. Sabhapati, D.B. Inamdar, Arshad Ali Khan and Kariyanna. The former KPCC presidents, members of the Congress Working Committee, Union Ministers from the State and heads of the various frontal organisations of the party would be members of the various panels.
