KOCHI: Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation has decided to relax its earlier stance regulating the screening of a movie in select centres during the first week of release. A general body meeting of the federation held here on Tuesday said the decision was taken on the basis of the talks convened by M.A. Baby, Minister for Cultural Affairs, and on the recommendations made by the Secretaries of Culture and Local Self-Government Departments. T.T. Babie, general secretary of the federation, said the decision to limit the release of movies in the first week was not taken unilaterally by the federation. Joint agreementHe said such an agreement was made jointly by various associations in the industry. It was also done under the supervision of the Film Chamber of Commerce. But later, a section of the people accused the federation of not supporting release of movies in maximum centres, Mr. Babie said. The federation had opposed the move to release a movie in maximum centres saying the collections in lead centres would suffer if a movie was released simultaneously in ‘B’ and ‘C’ centres. Tough timeProducers and distributors had a tough time after the Kerala Cine Exhibitors Association, association of non-releasing centres, decided not to facilitate the shifting of films in protest against the stance taken by the Film Exhibitors Federation.
