KOCHI: The government should extend the rehabilitation package announced for Moolamppilly residents to all those who have lost their land for the Vallarpadom container terminal project. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said the government should not adopt a different stance while considering the rehabilitation package for the evictees. He said the latest package would help 19 families but would not address the needs of others who had given up their dwellings for the project. “We are not against the package for the Moolamppilly evictees, but the authorities should not forget others who lost their land for the project,” he said. Mr. Thomas said more than 300 families had given up their land for the road and rail connectivity to the project site. The government had gone back on its earlier promise that it would consider the interests of all those who were evicted for the project while announcing a rehabilitation package, he said. Mr. Thomas said the evictees would be forced to launch an agitation, if the government failed to address their demands. He said such agitations would delay the successful completion of the project.
