BHUBANESWAR: The city is gearing up to host the week-long national youth festival for promotion of national integration, from May 12. The mega event would be organised by the State Department of Sports and Youth Services in association with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and New Delhi-based Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), the 26-year-old autonomous organisation under the Ministry. Information and Public Relations Minister Debasis Nayak, who also is in-charge of the Department of Youth Affairs, told The Hindu that about 850 delegates in the age group of 13 to 35 years from 20 Indian states and union territories would participate in the mega event. Governor M.C. Bhandare is scheduled to inaugurate it while Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would join the valedictory ceremony, he added. While the Kalinga Stadium complex would be the main venue for the festival, a number of cultural shows would also be staged simultaneously at the Utkal Mandap, Advasi Ground, Ekamra Haat open-air theatre and Jayadev Bhawan, it was learnt. With the focus of the festival on folk dances this year, the young delegates would present a variety of folk dances of India during the week-long meet. The State Government would contribute Rs. 5.63 lakh for hosting the event while the Ministry and NYKS would provide Rs.7.94 and Rs.1.8 lakh respectively.
