BHUBANESWAR: Young woman rower Mamata Jena has been chosen to receive prestigious 15th Ekalabya Award for the year 2007. Jury members of Ekalabya Award Committee concurred on Mamata’s name out of the 13 other sportsperson short-listed for the prestigious award in a meeting held here on Wednesday. The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 and a citation, is given to an outstanding performer in sports. Ekalabya Award was instituted by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT) the charitable wing of Orissa-based IMFA Group in 1993. Besides, Ms. Jena, talented chess player Kiran Manisha Mohanty and athlete Dandu Soren will also be conferred citations and prize money of Rs.10,000 each for their remarkable performances in various State and national-level championships during April 2005 and March 2007.
