No need to police this rally
When traffic was brought to a standstill at peak hours at Palarivattom Junction on Wednesday, no one was complaining. At least, not the police. For they were involved in holding up traffic in this case. It was the inauguration of the Janamaitri Suraksha Padhati, the community policing initiative that got going on Wednesday. Palarivattom police station, along with those at Gandhi Nagar and Fort Kochi, were selected to implement the first phase of the scheme in the city limi
ts. Commuters were more surprised than angry to find a rally being led by policemen, complete with percussion artistes and caparisoned elephant.
The inauguration of the project at Gandhi Nagar station had a touch of glamour as actor Suresh Gopi came down in police uniform, from a shooting session.
