Collection counters opened to remit tax

Krishnagiri: The Regional Transport Officer, M. Rajan, has asked the owners of non-transport vehicles to remit the tax for 2008-09. As part of the tax collection drive launched here on Wednesday, tax can be remitted at designated tax collection centres up to April 10 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The vehicle owners could remit their tax at the counters in the regional transport office in Krishnagiri and motor vehicle inspector offices at Hosur. Vehicle owners paying taxes annually could use the opportunity for lifetime tax remittance, which would eliminate visits to the RTOs every year. That would help them make a substantial saving. They could switch over to the lifetime tax by remitting the same at the regional transport offices.

The rate of Motor Vehicle tax for two wheelers and motorcycles are Rs. 135 for vehicles from 50 cc to 75 cc, Rs. 200 for 75 cc to 170 cc and Rs. 240 for above 170 cc.

Owners of vehicles that are 15 years old should remit a green tax for which separate application and challans have to be enclosed.

Motor vehicle owners have been requested to make early payment to avoid last minute rush and pressure at counters. Two-wheeler owners, who are currently paying annual motor vehicle tax, could switch over to life-tax.

Owners should produce original registration, emission and insurance certificates, besides the challan for remitting green tax for vehicles.
