Illegal quarrying bid

KARAIKAL: Public works department officials in the district on Thursday thwarted illegal quarrying of sand from the Arasalar. Sources said the officials received information that a group of persons were engaged in setting up a float with six empty barrels on the river and were moving the sand to the banks and selling them at a high price. When the officials paid a surprise visit, they escaped.
