Chitradurga: In a competitive world, mere educational qualification was not enough. Students should possess other skills of management to carve a niche in their career, said director-academics, SJM Educational Institutions, G.N. Mallikarjunappa. He was speaking at “Prerana ’08”, a personality development and motivation programme organised by the department of business management for students of Bachelor of Business Administration, here on Wednesday. ‘An industry’Dr. Mallikarjunappa said that education no longer remained a service sector but had become an industry. Every industry demanded a certain set of qualities and skills and students of management in particular should acquire such knowledge to meet the requirement, he said. He said that it was the responsibility of teachers to prepare students to meet the challenges in securing better position amid competition. The students would not be selected by companies if they lacked qualities which were needed to acquire a position there. GuidanceHe said that proper guidance and education could transform “human population into human resource”. “India has enormous human population, but it has to be properly channelised to convert the population into resources,” he said. Explaining the significance of management, he said that professional education such as Master of Business Administration was gaining importance. Even students of medical were taking up MBA course and found it useful in getting into their profession of choice. Joint Director, District Industries Centre, N.C. Chavan, and Principal Government Arts College, G.R. Eshwarappa, was present.
