Focus on sustainable development

NEW DELHI: Veteran agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan inaugurated a three-day international conference on “Issues in public policy and sustainable development” at Indira Gandhi National Open University here on Wednesday.

Prof. Swaminathan, who holds the Chair of Sustainable Development at IGNOU, underlined the need to introduce “sustainability science” as an independent subject in universities, adding, “The development of research projects and course material should be in the key areas of energy, health, agriculture, bio-diversity, industry and transport.”
