Manifesto release likely in second week of April UPA Government slammed for price rise BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to bank on roads to drive it to the seat of power in the ensuing Karnataka Assembly polls. The party is learnt to be examining a proposal to make road development a main poll plank. Sources in the BJP told The Hindu that the party was planning to have a major proposal for improvement of road connectivity in the State in its poll manifesto on the lines of the road development schemes undertaken by the then Prime Minister A. B. Vajpayee at the national level. “Road improvement is the key to development in all other sectors. A good road would lead to economic development. Hence, we want to focus on road development,” a senior party leader said. “We are trying to come out with a major proposal for improving the quality of construction of roads and also making better the road connectivity in the next five years,” the sources said. The party leaders feel that road development will touch people of all sections. Meanwhile, BJP Poll Manifesto Committee chairman V.S. Acharya said that the party might release the manifesto tentatively in the second week of April. The poll manifesto committee formally began its work on the preparation of manifesto on Thursday by holding the first round of consultations among its members. Dr. Acharya said that the manifesto would focus on making Karnataka the “No. 1” in the country in terms of all-round development in the next five years and would make specific proposals for improving economic as well as social infrastructure. Accusing the UPA government at the Centre of neglecting the lives of common people by its failure to check price rise, he said the BJP would spell out steps to improve the economic state of the common man through steps that would lead to increase in per capita income.
