Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy visited the accident site and the hospitals, where the injured were admitted.

Mr. Balakrishnan said the government would conduct a probe based on the reports from various agencies.

Inspector-General of Police, Ernakulam Range, Vinson M. Paul and Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, M. Padmanabhan have been asked to submit a report. The Transport Minister has directed Ajay Chowdhury, Transport Secretary, to submit a report, Mr. Balakrishnan said.

The Congress will observe a hartal in Pothanikkad on Friday, Mr. Chandy said. He said the Congress had informed the police in advance about the rally but there was not enough police force when the accident occurred. He asked the government to inquire into this.
