89 ESI dispensaries will soon get own buildings State government to provide required land KOCHI: Almost all the ESI (Employees State Insurance) Corporation dispensaries in the State will soon get their own buildings if a plan for constructing new buildings goes on schedule. The ESI Corporation and the State government have decided in principle to go in for own buildings for 89 ESI dispensaries. 35 have own buildingAs of now, there are 134 ESI dispensaries in the State, of which 35 are functioning in ESI-owned buildings, while the others are operating out of rented ones. The State government and the ESIC recently struck a deal under which the State government would provide the land required and the ESIC will take care of the construction cost. Accordingly, 89 dispensaries have been identified. The ESI has nine hospitals in the State which are all housed in owned buildings. Most of the dispensaries operating out of rented buildings are grossly inadequate and are located at inconvenient places. Jose Cherian, regional director of ESIC for Kerala, pointed out that the ESI network provided a host of medical and medical insurance benefits to the employees. He noted that recently the regional office had okayed financial aid for super-speciality medical services for 1,074 persons. The aid, totalling Rs.5.07 crore, consisted of advances for super-speciality treatment and reimbursement of claims for such treatment. The drafts would be sent out to medical institutions and the insured persons shortly.
