Five deep-draught ports proposed

HYDERABAD: The National Maritime Development Programme has envisaged the establishment of five deep-draught seaports as part of the 11th Five-Year Plan. Consultants are being finalised for preparing detailed project reports, according to Rakesh Srivastava, Joint Secretary in Department of Shipping.
Speaking on emerging opportunities in port development at an international seminar on infrastructure on Thursday, Mr. Srivsatava said that a corpus of Rs. 500 crore would be created and the same would be given to State Maritime Boards for development of small and medium seaports. Clearance from the Ministry of Finance was awaited for the creation of the corpus.
