Package for distressed villages
Special Correspondent
GULBARGA: The State Government has released Rs. 10 crore to all the 29 districts in the State to tackle the drinking water shortage in the affected areas.
Official sources told The Hindu here on Wednesday that the State Government had released the amount based on the list submitted to the government earlier, on the total number of problematic villages in the respective districts.
Sources said that the State Government had sought a sum of Rs. 108.5 crore in December last year from the Central Government as a special grant to tackle the drinking water shortage. But the Centre had released a total amount of just over Rs. 4.65 crore in two instalments.
The State Government had added another Rs. 5.35 crore from the State’s sector funds to the Central amount and distributed it to all the districts based on their requirements.
This amount would be used to tackle the drinking water shortage in 4,083 villages in the State.
