Kodava family hockey from April 20

Madikeri: The 12th edition of Kodava family hockey festival will be organised by the Alamengada family at Ponnampet in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu from April 20 to May 18, according to the organisers of the Alamengada Cup -2008 here on Monday.
Preparations are in full swing at the Ponnampet Junior College grounds for the event. Spectators’ gallery is being put up at the venue. As many as 160 Kodava family teams have confirmed participation and the last date for registering teams has been till March 28.
For the first time in the Kodava family hockey history, which began in the year 1997 in the form of Pandanda Cup, an air show by the Akash Ganga team of the Indian Air Force would be held, the organisers added. The cost of the festival is expected to be about Rs. 35 lakh.
An exhibition match between Coorg XI and International XI will be played on the opening day, the organisors added.
