GVMC, ICLEI tie-up on energy-saving mechanisms

ICLEI to advise corporation on energy conservation
Project to reduce carbon emission initiated

VISAKHPATNAM: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives- Local Governments for Sustenance-South Asia (ICLEI, SA), have agreed for collaboration in energy saving mechanisms and an action plan for reducing carbon emissions.

The citizen and the key stakeholder will benefit through database on energy consumption status of the city, carbon emission inventory for the city, sharing of the data with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, city-level climate protection policy, detailed action plan suitable for the city to achieve reduction of carbon emissions by integrating renewable and energy efficiency measures in their activities and implementation strategy for the action plan developed.

Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena and Chief Engineer Jayarami Reddy have discussed the project activities with ICLEI-SA Project Officers Ravi Ranjan Gupta and Kamlesh Pathak. The ICLEI will advise the corporation on the energy conservation mechanism that could lead to the corporation getting carbon credit, according to an official. ICLEI South Asia in collaboration with the British High Commission initiated a project to reduce carbon emissions and achieve energy efficiency through city level action plan by integrating renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) measures into city activity.
