Thiruvananthapuram: Noted critic Sukumar Azhikode on Thursday put the Indo-American nuclear deal in its historical perspective by contrasting the strong positions taken by the late V.K. Krishna Menon and the current leaders in New Delhi. Delivering the V.K. Krishna Menon memorial lecture, under the auspices of the Institute of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Azhikode traced the character of the late leader through anecdotes, culling out vignettes about a man, who, he termed as ‘strong-willed and brave.’ He recalled Menon’s impassioned opposition to the hydrogen bomb and destructive weapons. The late leader’s famous statement that ‘extermination of humanity is the most unclean mission’ raises questions about the futility of the External Affairs Minister discussing the nuclear deal, he said. Law Minister M. Vijaykumar presided over the meeting. P. Viswom, MLA, welcomed the gathering and Institute director Dr. Prabhash proposed a vote of thanks.
