To enhance public accessibility to field-level officers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala police have joined hands with leading mobile service provider, Vodafone, to make their functioning more transparent, accountable and responsive to the needs of the general public.

The 24X7 scheme is an effort to prevent crime and to readdress the grievances of the public.

Under the scheme, the mobile phones will be provided to all Station House Officers of 433 police stations, 190 Circle Inspectors, 50 Sub Divisional Police Officer’s, 17 Dy.SP’s of Special Branch, 17 Dy.SP’s of Crime Detachment, 17 Dy.SP’s of District Crime Record Bureaus, Assistant Commissioners of Police (Traffic), Commissioners of Police, Superintendents of Police in the cities and districts, four Range Inspector Generals of Police, two Zonal Additional Director Generals of Police and Director General of Police.

All the mobile phone connection will be made available to the public so that they can contact the officers and communicate with them round-the-clock for assistance, for passing on information needed for the police, to report crimes and represent grievances.
