Telangana organisations condemn ‘attack’ by CPI

They had gone to the meet to submit memorandum to CPI leaders seeking support for separate Telangana

HYDERABAD: Telangana organisations have strongly condemned the alleged attack on the activists of the Telangana Aikya Vedika by the Communist Party of India cadres in the city.

Journalist Ramesh Hazari, who was reportedly injured in the attack, said that they had only gone to the CPI national conference to present a memorandum to the CPI leaders seeking support for the separate Telangana cause.

While senior CPI leaders including K.Narayana, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and others received the memorandum along with the party general secretary A. B. Bardhan, some party cadres allegedly assaulted the Telangana activists, he noted.

The attack evoked strong criticism from the Telangana Jana Parishat, Telangana Gazetted Officers Association, Telangana Journalists Forum, Telangana Sangharshana Samiti and Telangana IT Forum and Telangana Cultural Federation.

‘Not assaulted’

Meanwhile, Mr. Bardhan said he was not assaulted as reported in the media. He only tried to prevent some outsiders trying to distribute pamphlets at the meeting. The red guards sent them out, he added. Mr. Narayana in another statement said that representatives of the Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika were distributing pamphlets at the CPI National conference. They entered into argument with Mr. Bardhan, following which party volunteers dragged them out. He flayed the reports that pro-Telangana activists were assaulted.
