Stories from the animal planet now in Hindi

Madhur Tankha

Viewers’ bonanza: ‘Animal Planet’ will run a parallel 24-hour Hindi channel from this coming April 1.

NEW DELHI: To stimulate interest in wildlife and nature among the non-English speaking population of the country, Animal Planet on Friday announced its 24-hour Hindi feed from this coming April 1.

Addressing a press conference here, Deepak Shourie of Discovery Networks India said there was an overwhelming interest in wildlife and nature in the country these days. “The strong demand from viewers and our research highlighted the need for a parallel 24-hour Hindi feed. Our unique and engaging content attracts strong viewership from across age groups, genders and geographies. The channel is ideally poised to leverage this competitive advantage,” he added.

Well defined time bands

Allowing wildlife enthusiasts to navigate the channel better, Animal Planet has come out with a new plan to introduce four well-defined time bands. The one-hour-long time-bands would be visually appealing and highly informative. They would enable the channel to better communicate the diversity of its content to viewers both existing and potential.

As a celebration of nature, the channel is now coming up with “Safari” that will be aired from Monday to Saturday at 8 p.m.

Viewers will get to see some of the classic wildlife and nature programmes detailing the entire lifecycle of plant and animal lives.

Programmes

To pay tribute to some of the bravest wildlife enthusiasts who dared for a cause, “Masters of the Jungle” -- to be aired from Monday to Saturday at 9 p.m. -- will show wildlife experts David Attenborough and Steve Irwin explaining some of the most complex animal behaviour. The duo may have different styles but they will do their best to dispel the myths about some of the most feared animals.

Animal Planet Week that will be beamed throughout the week at 10 p.m. will feature programmes under special themes like “Animal Face-Off Week”, “Planet Action Week” and “Big Cat Dairy Week”. Each week will have a new theme for wildlife enthusiasts.

“Wild Encounters” will be screened from Monday to Sunday at 11 p.m. and include some of India-centric programmes.
