More vehicles to join 108 fleet

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Only 600 to 800 pregnant women out of 4,000 cases reported on an average every month have been utilising the EMRI – 108 facility in the district. Others are depending on autorickshaws or other private vehicles to reach the nearest health centre.

They are unaware that any person who needs medical attention for snakebite, hypertension, diarrhoea, burns etc can also phone for the service. So far 600 pregnant women while on way to health centres had delivered in the ambulance itself, according to A. Lakshmana Rao, EMRI district manager.

In addition to 18 ambulances -- one each for two mandals -- three more vehicles would join the fleet from next month-end.
