NIT-C fete showcases talents

Staff Reporter

Fine treat by five up-and-coming colleges bands

‘Whitenoiz’ will perform on Saturday evening

KOZHIKODE: The third day of ‘Ragam ’08,’ the annual cultural programme at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C), on Friday featured pop music, ‘Anthakshari,’ extempore contests and clay modelling, showcasing the talents of participants across the country.

The day began with a fine treat to ‘pop music’ lovers by five up-and-coming bands from various colleges. Anthakshari was next, in Hindi, where students proved they could belt out songs by the minute. Just a minute (Malayalam) was an hour of fun-filled banter, more than competition.

Moving on to tableau, the participating teams showed their commitment to taking up social issues, where net-addiction and globalisation formed their subjects of choice. Mockpress (finals) and Extempore (Hindi) took place on Friday.

Gamers had a go at the ‘RAGNAROK’ gaming arena. Then there was the solo dance and duplicate (two members of a team performing synchronized moves separated by a partition).

The dance events were closely fought in a refreshing mix of classical and western styles. Drama competition in English, extempore and cartooning events were also held. ‘Whitenoiz,’ a Banglore-based band, will perform on Saturday evening.

Results (only first place winners) of some of the events: Group Dance: Ist prize: Government Medical College, Thrissur; Mock Press: Vishnu G. Raghav, College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET); Tableau: Sree Chitra Tirunal College of Engineering ,Thiruvananthapuram; Extempore (Hindi): Mahavir Singh Rajpurohit; Mohandas College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram; Anthakshari (Hindi): NIT-C; Light Music Solo (Girls): Bhavya P, Providence College, Calicut; Light Music Solo (Boys): Mithun Mohan, NIT-C; Clay Modelling: Government Medical College, Trichur.
