Annual Credit Plan for Tiruvannamalai district envisages outlay of Rs.777 crore

TIRUVANNAMALAI: An outlay of Rs.777 crore has been envisaged under the Annual Credit Plan (ACP) for Tiruvannamalai district during 2008-09. Collector Satyabrata Sahoo released the ACP at the meeting of the District Level Review Committee of banks held here on Thursday.

Mr. Sahoo urged the banks to grant medium-term loans expeditiously to the beneficiaries to aid the development of the district.

He requested the banks to give priority to women self-help groups (SHGs) set up under the Village Poverty Reduction Committees, to give continuation loans of up to Rs.15 lakh to women SHGs that were functioning well, and to sugarcane and fruit growers for putting up drip irrigation systems.

He urged the banks to fully implement the loan scheme for the women SHGs under which it has been planned to provide loans to the tune of Rs.60 crore. He also called upon the banks to provide education loans liberally to the people in the rural areas to motivate them to pursue higher education. Education loans to the tune of Rs.11 crore were given to 1,547 students during the current year, he said.

Anu George, Additional Collector, District Rural Development Agency, reviewed the implementation of the Swarnajayanthi Gramin Swarozgar Yojana in the district during 2007-08.

M. Kathiresan, Circle Head, Indian Bank, Vellore, said that it has been programmed to provide crop loans to the tune of Rs.512 crore, medium-term farm loans of Rs.108 crore, industrial development loans for Rs.36 crore and business and other sector loans to the tune of Rs.121 crore under the ACP for 2008-09.

S. Narayanan, Assistant General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Tiruvannamalai, reviewed the implementation of the ACP for 2007-2008. Kuppusamy, Joint Director of Agriculture, appealed to the farmers to avail of crop insurance.
