DAVANGERE: The Union Government’s announcement to waive crop loan is only a gimmick aimed at garnering votes and not to help farmers, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) has said. Talking to reporters here today, Basavarajappa and Veerasangaiah, general secretaries of the KRRS state unit, said that according to a study the loan amount of farmers in the country was Rs. 3 lakh crore while the Government had not waived even half of it. Further, it had differentiated farmers as small and big and thereby deprived many who had availed themselves of loans over Rs. 3 lakh to buy agriculture implements and tractors and trailers. The raitha sangha said that the Government had not waived loans in the interest of farmers but to lure farmers and establish a vote bank. The raitha sangha demanded that the Government waive all loans of all farmers irrespective of the amount and without differentiating farmers as small and big. The Government was not doing any favour to farmers by waiving loans.
