HYDERABAD: Rejecting the suggestion of some partymen not to field candidates in the byelections to fill seats vacated by the TRS, AP Congress Committee president D. Srinivas said that the party would definitely field its nominees in the polls. “They are all personal opinions of individual leaders and not the party’s decision,” Mr. Srinivas said in an informal chat with reporters in the Assembly on Friday, a day after he assumed charge as PCC president. Mr. Srinivas called on Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy after he resigned as Higher Education Minister. “I have forwarded my resignation letter soon after taking over as the party chief,” he said and added that it was for the Chief Minister to take a decision and forward the letter to the Governor for acceptance. The PCC president said he would attend a meeting convened by former party chief G. S. Rao at Gandhi on Saturday with Ministers, legislators, PCC office-bearers and chiefs of district and city Congress units. He said the party would undertake from April 9 a ‘Prajapatham’ programme to interact with people in the rural areas.
