BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police on Friday continued with the search for the concealed properties of seven officials whose offices and residences were raided on Thursday for having allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta) Rupak Kumar Dutta told The Hindu that they were looking into properties, which have come to the knowledge during the raids conducted on Thursday. “We have completed the search in the offices and houses of the seven officials. We are looking at the properties possessed by the relatives of the officials. Some properties have not been disclosed by the officials, while they have came to light during the raids,” he said. On Thursday, Lokayukta police raided offices and residences of four motor vehicle inspectors Sathyan, Srinivasappa, Prathamesh and N. Kariyappa; Joint Commissioner of Commercial Tax of Mangalore Sadashiva; Headquarters Assistant to Hassan Deputy Commissioner K.P. Honakeri; and Food Inspector, Gulbarga, S.B. Phulare. The raids were conducted simultaneously in Bangalore, Mysore, Bellary, Hassan, Tumkur and Mangalore. The Lokayukta police opened some of bank lockers pertaining to officials, including that of Mr. Kariyappa, and found some incriminating documents on Friday. Mr. Dutta said he will shortly write to the departmental heads seeking suspension of the seven officials. “This will be done soon after preparing reports of the assets found during the raids. This will be done in the next two days.” He said the letters seeking suspension will contain a summary of the assets possessed by officials which are disproportionate to their known sources of income. TrappedThe Lokayukta police on Thursday caught a second division assistant in the office of Executive Officer, Yelahanka, while he was allegedly accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000. Second Division Assistant H. Venkatachalaiah allegedly demanded Rs. 50,000 for issuing a duplicate title deed to Nagaratna of Gayatri Nagar. He agreed for Rs. 45,000 and took an advance of Rs. 10,000. He demanded payment of the remaining Rs. 35,000 in instalments. Nagaratna was reportedly asked to pay Rs. 10,000 on Thursday. CaughtThe headmistress, a teacher and the president of Sangameshwara Urdu School in Jayanagar 9th Block were caught while allegedly accepting Rs. 24,000 for disbursement of arrears of salary. The State Government released Rs. 1.29 lakh to the school towards the arrears of eight teachers. Headmistress Rizwana Begaum, teacher Mubeena and president Rehmathulla Khan allegedly demanded Rs. 3,000 each from eight teachers for the release of the amount.
