HYDERABAD: The Assembly on Friday admitted a motion moved by TDP seeking a no confidence vote against the Congress government, paving the way for a marathon debate spread over three days beginning Monday. Soon after the motion was admitted, Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy adjourned the House to convene the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting. The meeting decided to debate the motion for 19 hours spread over two days, 12 hours on Monday and seven hours on Tuesday. It was later modified to three days and put the motion to vote at the end of the debate on Wednesday. The Speaker made an announcement later in the evening that Congress would be given six hours and the TDP five hours for the debate. The CPI(M), CPI, MIM and the BJP would get 30 minutes while Samajwadi Party, Janata Party and BSP would get 20 minutes each. The reply would span over five hours. Senior TDP legislator Y. Ramakrishnudu said the party was satisfied with the outcome of the BAC as it got the time it wanted, in fact an hour more than the 18-hour debate that former Chief Minister K. Vijayabhaskhara Reddy had faced in 1994. Six TDP members would get an opportunity to participate in the debate. This would also mean as many or more chances for the Ministers to respond. Floor leaders of different parties too would make their point. When the resolution was taken up for voting by the Speaker today all but one of the 43 TDP members supported it. The only member was left out as he had walked into the House after the head count. Mr. Suresh Reddy announced the result by excluding the member as one-tenth of the total members of the Assembly were sufficient for the passage of the resolution. No other Opposition party supported the TDP.
