Rescued workers await bank loans

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Having suffered at the hands of their employers for long, these are a group of people awaiting rehabilitation after being rescued. Some 19 persons, who were rescued in Hoskote taluk where they worked as bonded labourers, are awaiting loans from nationalised banks to start life afresh. But they are running out of time.

With just a few days left this financial year, the banks are yet to release the loans. “We are requesting the banks to hasten the process as the subsidy amount that we have paid to the banks would lapse,” Rajgopal, project director of Swarna Jayanthi Gram Swarojgar Yojana in Bangalore Rural District told The Hindu. The labours, mostly from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, were trained in animal husbandry and other trades.
