PUDUKOTTAI: Teachers and wardens of higher educational institutions should develop students’ skills through sustained interaction and help them shun inhibitions, Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu said on Friday. Participating in the college day celebration of J.J. College of Arts and Science here, Mr. Velu said the teacher-taught relationship should assume a new dimension with mutual understanding for achieving overall development. He underlined the role of teachers in shaping the future leaders of the country. AppealMr. Velu appealed to the students to contribute their mite for checking global warming, which posed a serious threat to the environment in the present-day context. Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests S. Regupathy traced the growth of the college from an initial intake of 35 students in 1994. The college now had over 3,000 students on its rolls. The Minister advised the college management to grant special exemption from college fees to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections and also to encourage students gifted with talent in sports. Managing trustee Kavitha Subramanian and principal J. Parasuraman said 79 students of various branches secured university ranks this year. Mr. Velu presented awards to winners of various competitions. He also gave away purse to each of the faculty members who registered cent per cent pass percentage.
