Cash award for academic achiever

HONOUR: Ariyalur Collector R. Sudalaikannnan handing over a cheque to K. Udayaraj at Kallakurichi on Thursday.

ARIYALUR: K. Udayaraj, a visually impaired student of Pichanur, who stood third in the State in last year’s Plus Two examination, was presented with a cheque for Rs.23,000 by Collector R. Sudalaikannan on Thursday.

Currently pursuing B.A. English Literature in Presidency College, Chennai, Udayaraj achieved the academic distinction as a candidate of Government Higher Secondary School, Udayarpalayam.

Of the total amount provided through the office of the District Disabled Rehabilitation Officer, Rs.3,000 is prize money and Rs.16,000 is meant for meeting expenses of higher studies, while Rs.4,000 is incentive amount.

Mr. Sudalaikannan presented the cheque to the student in the presence of officials including District Revenue Officer K. Pulamadan and District Disabled Rehabilitation Officer N. Selvaraj.
