IREL employees demonstrate in front of the Collectorate

Staff Reporter

It is illegal to purchase and do mining in those lands experimented by IREL already

Nagercoil: The employees of Indian Rare Earth Limited of Manavalakurichy unit near Mondaicadu held demonstration in front of the Collectorate on Friday to urge the Government to take immediate action against private organisation, which threatened the national security in the name of community.

According to IREL sources, the raw sand needed for operation of IREL was taken from various seashores in Kanyakumari district.

IREL has proposed to extract mineral sands from waste land of Midalam, Keezamanakudi and Keezkulam villages.

But some private miscreants were protesting against the sand mining in the above said areas and were trying to create law and order problems.

Through Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD), the IREL has spent lakhs of rupees for the exploration to find out the presence of rare minerals in the above said villages and applied for land acquisition to the State Government.

By knowing this a private company owner, who was running a garnet extraction plant in Keeraikaranthattu in Tirunelveli district has procured some lands in the IREL land acquisition applied area clandestinely.

It was highly illegal to purchase and do mining in those lands experimented by IREL already.

This private owner was doing false propaganda and protests against IREL through some agents under the banner of a particular community.

Therefore, the joint IREL workers union council including Kanyakumari district minerals workers and staff union, IREL Mazoor Sangh, Anna Minerals Employees Union, IREL Employees Union and Minerals Workers Union were requesting the Government in this matter to safeguard the IREL, keeping national security in mind and also take remedial and stringent action against these elements, who were threatening the communal harmony and also creating law and order problems in Kanyakumari district.
