This Day That Age
The Central Government has suggested to the State Governments that targets of food production must be fixed for every district, village and also the individual farmer, in a circular addressed by the Union Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. A. P. Jain. This is regarded as a new effort to bring home to the State Governments the gravity of their lapses in the fulfilment of targets of agricultural production and to compel them to pay greater and undivided attention to this problem. Besides pointing out the inadequate utilisation of new irrigation facilities provided at enormous costs to the nation, Mr. Jain has urged the State Governments to concentrate on minor irrigation works and the multiplication of seed farms and development of local manorial resources.
