NEW DELHI: Chief Ministers of nine States ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its National Democratic Alliance partners will exchange notes here on Saturday on development-related issues and work out strategies to take on the United Progressive Alliance. At a similar meeting held a few months ago, it was decided that the Chief Ministers would prepare a report card to compare their achievements and juxtapose them with those of the Congress and its UPA allies. “Good governance is the issue,” BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said when he was asked what the agenda was. Strategies for the Lok Sabha election would also be discussed. BJP president Rajnath Singh and other senior leaders would be present at the meeting at the residence of Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani. Chief Ministers from the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and of Punjab, Orissa and Bihar are expected to attend. The BJP leadership has been projecting Gujarat as the “model State” for good governance but this stand has been resented by not only NDA Chief Ministers but also some BJP Chief Ministers themselves. One Janata Dal (United) leader said: “For us Nitish Kumar’s government in Bihar, not Gujarat, is the role model.”
