‘Gramshree Mela’ from April 5

BERHAMPUR: The Council for Advancement for Peoples Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) and the Orissa Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) would jointly organise a national ‘Gramshree Mela’ at the Berhampur stadium from April 5 to April 12.

Artisans from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar have confirmed their participation in this Mela, said Ganjam district Collector, V.K. Pandian.

They would display their skills of handicraft providing scope for the city dwellers to buy the exotic handicrafts near their home.

According to the organisers this exhibition of rural handicraft aims at providing the women a great time of shopping.

Chanderi saree of Madhya Pradesh, Pochampalli saree and dress materials from Andhra Pradesh, traditional patch work and beads work of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh would be the highlight of this Mela. Carpets, wood works, metal crafts would also be available.

Products produced by women Self Help Groups (SHG) of Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Directorate of Handicraft and Cottage Industries would also be displayed in the exhibition.

There would be regular seminars and workshops at the venue to increase awareness among the people.
