Credit counselling centre to be opened from April 1 Rs. 110.11 crore for Chamarajanagar taluk Chamarajanagar: The Chamarajanagar District Credit Plan for 2008-09 envisages an outlay of Rs. 299 crore. The credit plan, prepared by the State Bank of Mysore, the lead bank for the district, was released by Deputy Commissioner K. Vishwanath Reddy here on Friday. The outlay for the priority sector is Rs. 267 crore, an increase of Rs. 74.51 crore over the previous year’s outlay for the sector, and the outlay for the non-priority sector is Rs. 32 crore, which is an increase of Rs. 7.32 crore over that of the previous year’s outlay. Outlay for different heads under the priority sector are as follows: Rs. 99.99 crore for crop loan; Rs. 15.42 crore for minor irrigation; Rs. 9.13 crore for animal husbandry and related activities; Rs. 13.79 crore for farm mechanisation; Rs. 4.19 crore for agricultural and allied activities; Rs. 13.45 crore for small-scale industries; Rs. 1.11 crore for storage and market yards; Rs. 1.74 crore for forestry and wasteland development; Rs. 11.8 lakh for fisheries and Rs. 85.36 crore for other priority sectors. Under the priority sector, the lead bank has earmarked Rs. 95.99 crore for government-sponsored schemes which is an increase of Rs. 39.61 crore over that of the previous year’s outlay. The amount will be utilised to fund self-employment and income generating schemes covering as may as 43,821 beneficiaries. The district banks have deposits of Rs. 529.51 crore and have made advances of Rs. 563.33 crore with credit-deposit (CD) ratio of 106.39 per cent. The district credit plan is an amalgamation of various service area plans prepared by the agencies purveying rural credit. Under the priority sector Chamarajanagar taluk will receive Rs. 110.11 crore and Kollegal, Gundlepet and Yelandur taluks will receive Rs. 79.85 crore, Rs. 58.53 crore and Rs. 18.9 crore respectively. Delivering the keynote address, General Manager of SBM G. Madhusudan Rao said that banks had responded positively to the credit needs of the farmers in the district by projecting Rs. 99.99 crore towards crop loan for the year 2008-09. Mr. Reddy asked the bank authorities to have an open-minded attitude towards farmers while implementing government-sponsored schemes. He said that credit counselling centre would be opened from April 1 to avoid middlemen and to facilitate customers. He asked the bank authorities to provide loans to farmers after ensuring their repayment capacity. Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat G. Jayaram, who presided over the function, called upon the bank authorities to display credit plan information in their bank branches and respective gram panchayat offices for the benefit of farmers. He called upon the bank managers to facilitate daily wage employees and farmers to open bank accounts as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme would be implemented in the district from April 1.
