AI increases flights to Mumbai

Passengers to New York, Chicago and Riyadh will be ‘through-checked in’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Increasing the weekly flights from Thiruvananthapuram to Mumbai from the present two to six and immediate connections from Mumbai to Chicago and Riyadh are the highlights of Air India’s summer schedule that will come in to effect from Sunday.

The four weekly flights in the Thiruvananthapuram-Mumbai sector will be operated on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. According to Air India manager H.A. Munaff, the flights will depart from here at 8.40 p.m. to reach Mumbai at 10.55 p.m.

The flights have been introduced to give immediate connection to Air India’s non-stop daily Mumbai-New York flight departing from Mumbai at 12.45 midnight. According to Mr. Munaff, all the four flights from the State capital to Mumbai will give immediate connections from Mumbai to Chicago and Riyadh.

As the flights land in international terminal in Mumbai, the passengers proceeding to New York, Chicago and Riyadh can complete their Emigration, Customs and other formalities in Thiruvananthapuram international airport itself and their baggage will be ‘through checked in’ right up to the final destination.

The existing flights to Mumbai on Monday and Wednesday already provides ‘through check-in’ at Thiruvananthapuram for passengers travelling to Newark, Chicago, Frankfurt and Paris.

The weekly international operations of the national carrier from Thiruvananthapuram will remain the same in the summer schedule. There will be five flights to Dubai, one to Dammam, two flights to Riyadh, six to Mumbai, one each to Kochi and Kozhikode.

The summer schedule of Air India Express, the no-frills airline of AI, had come into effect on February 18. A special all inclusive fare of Rs.2,699 had been introduced on Thiruvananthapuram-Mumbai-Thiruvananthapuram sector in the AIE flights on Wednesday. The flight will depart from Thiruvananthapuram at 8 a.m. to reach Mumbai at 10 a.m. In the return direction, the flight will leave at 6 p.m. to reach Thiruvananthapuram at 8 p.m.

Qatar Airways

The QR 241 flight of Qatar Airways from Thiruvananthapuram to Doha will depart from Thiruvananthapuram at 5 a.m. from March 30, according to district sales manager Shaji Thomas.
