DAZZLING: Streaks of lightning flash across the sky as the city experienced a spell of showers on Friday evening.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Rain and thundershowers lashed the city on Friday evening bringing respite from the soaring daytime temperature.

The day began on an oppressive note with hot and humid conditions and even as the city reeled under their onslaught, the heavens opened up in the evening much to the joy of people.

The evening sky unburdened itself to pour out into a soothing spell of showers that continued till late in the night.

The downpour started with heavy wind and lightning that continued for about 40 minutes after which it subsided into a steady drizzle.

People returning from colleges and offices were caught unawares.

While some took shelter under trees and roadside shops, others had to stay back in the offices and wait for the rain to stop.

The rain also brought along with it power cut in a few areas.

Weathermen attribute the reason behind these evening showers to the soaring humidity levels in the daytime. The city has been experiencing evening showers for the past few days resulting in cooler nights.
