Thiruvananthapuram: The police have arrested a 32-year-old man wanted in several cases in the city. The suspect is Shaji alias “Kilavan” Shaji, a resident of Muttathara. A team of plainclothesmen led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Anti-Goonda squad) E. Sherifudeen arrested him from an unspecified location in the city early on Friday. The suspect was arrested on the basis of intelligence information generated by City Police Commissioner Ravada Azad Chandrasekhar. The informant had told the Commissioner that Shaji was heading a protection money and extortion racket in the city. VictimsHis victims included traders in the city and also licensees of toddy shops in Muttathara and Perunelli areas. The police said the suspect was accused in several cases, including the gangland murder of “Moozhi” Anil at Poonthura few years ago. He was also listed as accused in several attempted murder cases. The police said they were searching for his associates “Durvasavu” Sathi and “Unakka” Shaji. Youth attackedAn armed gang attacked and injured a youth at Vanchiyoor late on Thursday. The police identified the victim as Liju who was earlier listed as suspect in a gangland murder case in the city. The police have registered a case of attempted murder in connection with the incident.
