Thiruvananthapuram: The annual budget of the Vattiyoorkavu grama panchayat committee, approved on Friday, proposes the construction of buildings for Homoeo and Ayurveda hospitals, a shopping complex at Vazhayila and a wedding hall at Nettayam and a solid waste treatment plant. The budget presented by panchayat vice president and chairman of the finance standing committee V. Balachandran Nair shows a revenue of Rs.16.13 crore and expenditure of Rs.15.3 crore, with a surplus of Rs.82.86 lakh. An amount of Rs.45 lakh has been set aside for repair and maintenance of rural roads in the panchayat and Rs.30 lakh for reconstruction of panchayat buildings. The budget has allocated Rs.10 lakh for acquisition of land to relocate the panchayat market. A veterinary hospital will be constructed at Rs.5 lakh. A sum of Rs.5 lakh each has been earmarked for the construction of a playground at Vazhayila, introducing inpatient facilities at the public health centre and building a compound wall for the PHC at Kulasekharam. Mr. Nair also proposed a Rs.6-lakh scheme to purchase land for the landless.
