Corporation blamed for lacunae in streetlight system

Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: The Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. has appealed to the people to contact the Mangalore City Corporation officials for any deficiency in its street lighting system.

The Executive Engineer (Operations and Maintenance), Mescom, has in a press release here on Friday stated that the corporation, which was looking after the operation and maintenance of streetlights for the past one year, had outsourced the work to a private operator. The corporation was required to ensure that the streetlights were switched on at 7 p.m. and switched off at 6 a.m. However, the street lights were found glowing at many places even after 6 a.m. he said.

Mescom has urged the corporation to adhere to the time frame.

The Mescom, in a separate release here, stated that it commissioned the 33/11-kV power distribution centre at Kukkipaddy in Bantwal taluk on Thursday.
