Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: There was a time when population was considered a burden on the economy of the country. But, now the vast resource of skilled manpower is a boon to the economic development of the country, R.C. Swami, Vice-President of L&T Infotech, Chennai, said here on Saturday.

Delivering the convocation address at the Tamil Nadu College of Engineering, he said that the country’s rich manpower resource was the main requirement for it to achieve economic progress.

“There has been a dramatic improvement in the literacy rate in the country. India has also achieved good progress in the field of Information Technology. The progress has been such that it is being regarded as a global player in the field of IT,” Mr. Swami said.

Reckoning factor

He said that the country was becoming a reckoning factor in the global atmosphere. “Hence, young graduates should cultivate a winning attitude to achieve greater heights in life by overcoming hurdles. Be passionate and innovative.”

He asked them to give importance to subjects such as civil engineering, architecture and bio-technology.

P.V. Ravi, college Secretary, and T.N. Palaniswami, Chairman, spoke.
