RAMESWARAM: Vice-Admiral Raman Prem Suthan, Vice-Chief of Naval Staff-designate, on Wednesday gave a clean chit to INS Jalashwa, formerly USS Trenton, in which an accident occurred during an exercise in the Bay of Bengal last month. It was recently purchased from the U.S. Speaking to The Hindu after inspecting the naval detachment here, he said it was purely an accident. The Board of Enquiry, which investigated the incident, had submitted its report. The findings were being examined. Asked whether the accident was caused by technical faults, he said there was nothing wrong with the ship. There was a gas leak in the sewage treatment plant, resulting in the death of some personnel. The ship was back on track. Steps would be taken to prevent such accidents, he said.
